Oh, Restore Us Again!

Psalm 60:1

In this 1st verse of Psalm 60 that serves as the foundation of this inspirational message, the writer, King David, is crying out to God. David wrote, “O God, You have cast us off; You have broken us down; You have been displeased; Oh, restore us again!”

At this time in the history of the people of God, they rejected God and instead clamored to be ruled by a king like the other nations around them. Just that quickly, they had forgotten that God—not a human king—had delivered them out of Egypt with a strong hand and a mighty arm. Just that quickly, they forgot that God—not a human king—had delivered them from their wilderness wandering and had deposited them in the promised land of Canaan. God granted their wishes, and Saul was proclaimed King (1st Samuel 10:17-26). However, Saul’s reign as King did not last long due to his disobedience to God.

Hence, in the 16th Chapter of 1st Samuel, David was anointed as King over Israel.

Unfortunately, because of Saul’s disobedience, God’s favor departed from him, which left Israel at the mercy of their enemies.

In other words, David inherited Saul’s mess, and what a mess it was! Saul had murdered the priests. Saul picked a fight with the Philistines, which weakened the military power of Israel. It appeared that everything in the land was unstable.

When David cried out to God in the 1st verse of Psalm 60, he was keeping it real! David was putting it out there! God had broken them down and they needed restoration!

Can we keep it real for a moment? When was the last time we approached God in this manner?  Does it ever occur to us that some of the negative things that may be going on in our lives may be the result of God being displeased with us? God has not cast us off (because He promised never to leave us, nor forsake us), but perhaps He is trying to “break us down” or “reel us back in.”

Personally, I believe I am in a season of restoration right now. In retrospect, I have been a little “off base” lately with my spiritual disciplines. I found myself being distracted by personal issues going on in my life that affected my prayer and study time with the Lord. I had not written a message in over two months because I had not been preaching due to pulmonary issues—there was no excuse for that!

I had to repent! God called me to preach the Gospel and if I cannot vocally “preach” for a while from a pulpit, then I will “preach” in a literary form through this blog!!! The Lord had to “break me down” and now I am in a season of restoration!

I do not know who this message is for today, but take a good look at yourself. If God has been breaking you down, do not be upset with Him; it is a good thing. Ask the Lord to help you correct what is wrong so you can join me on the road to restoration!

Oh, restore us again!

Amen Pastor Frieda. Though not in a period of restoration, now in the season of change. Thanking God for the change in my life, that I seek him first in all things.
